Pixie’s Story
Age at diagnosis: 5 years
Breed: Poochon
Pixie is a wonderful, loving, cuddly dog. She had two brief neurological events one month apart before diagnosis of paroxysmal dyskinesia. One month later she developed stiffness in her back and seemed to be becoming more reluctant to go out, she was also becoming fatigued, sleeping a lot and having back pain. She also had a third neurological episode, so we went back to her neurologist, but that became more rushed when she urinated whilst laying and had a fourth neurological event. This triggered a hospital stay, MRI, CT of her stomach and spinal fluid sampling. She has a very small lesion on her cerebellum and her brain stem. She's recovering very well and doing well on treatment, we are only a few months in and trying to be very helpful as she is very well, but the anxiety for us is really hard. We hope she remains well and lives a long and happy life.
Pixie is part of The Theo Project's canine meningitis registry - a growing global collection of MUE, MUO and SRMA stories shared to help families facing this diagnosis.
