Daphne’s Story
Age at diagnosis: 1 year 8 months
Breed: Pomeranian
Daphne was an amazing little dog. Her tiny 3 lb self was full of energy and love. She was super sweet and loved everyone she met, even her vets when they had to poke and prod. She had a laid-back attitude and was a perfect travelling companion.
Her medical issues began with hind leg weakness and knuckling, but she greatly improved on prednisolone and cyclosporine. Along with meningitis, she also had megaesophagus, but she took quickly to sitting in her Bailey chair and being hand fed. She loved her meals and generally loved life.
Sadly, when we tapered, her symptoms returned. But Daphne was a fighter, and she was determined to walk again. After some time and increasing her dosage, she improved again, and her megaesophagus was nearly resolved. She still had some issues walking, but she would surprise me by walking longer distances than expected, just to have a cuddle or see what I was doing.
Sadly, seizures came along with her condition, and her little body just had too much to fight. She fought her way through setbacks and overcame so many obstacles. In her short life, she accomplished so much, and left such a void when she left. She will never be forgotten.
