Cheyenne's Story

Age at diagnosis: 11 years

Breed: Shetland Sheepdog

Cheyenne is an 11 year old Shetland Sheepdog. She is very sweet and loving. One day I noticed her cheek was swollen on her left side. Our vet put her on antibiotics. Then one day she was walking like she was drunk. We took her to the ER and they said she had idiopathic vestibular disease. She continued to have vestibular episodes and we took her to a neurologist, where we had an MRI and spinal tap. It came back as mild inflammation in the spinal fluid. She is on 5mg of prednisone once a day, leflunomide 20mg once a day and zonisamide 50mg twice a day. She still has episodes every once in a while. We give her meclizine to help with that.

Cheyenne is part of The Theo Project's canine meningitis registry - a growing global collection of MUE, MUO and SRMA stories shared to help families facing this diagnosis.
