Buddy’s Story

Age at diagnosis: 5 years

Breed: Cavalier Mix

Buddy’s symptoms were sudden however not too bad to start with, however over the course of 2 months they unfortunately progressed. Buddy was then referred to a neurologist but a cause still could not be found. As his symptoms got worse he was unable to balance and therefore stand or walk properly. His neurologist suggested trying a course of chemotherapy to try to stop his immune system from damaging more of his nerves/brain. Even 24 hours after the treatment there was a notable improvement in his symptoms and despite still not being at all well we continued on a regular chemotherapy schedule and he got better and better! He has been chemotherapy free for just over 12 months now and is still doing well! He can’t quite blink properly and still loses his balance occasionally however he is back to being his normal happy self, loving life, adventures and treats!

Buddy is part of The Theo Project's canine meningitis registry - a growing global collection of MUE, MUO and SRMA stories shared to help families facing this diagnosis.
